Stop At: Sapelo Island, Sapelo Island, Georgia

After we meet, we’ll briefly tour the excellent history and nature exhibits up stairs in the red Sapelo Island Visitors Center before walking 300 yards to board the Sapelo Island Ferry for the 30 minute trip to the Island, where we will meet our rental car at Marsh Landing dock for our Island tour. There is a round trip ferry fee per person in cash including your guide that you’ll pay the boat mate at the head of the dock before boarding, and rental car fee in cash paid to the owner when we arrive on the Island. You will also need to replace the gas used on the tour, credit card only.

Our first stop is an optional tour of the University of Georgia Marine Institute Turkey Fountain, and Lighthouse Creek.

Next, we’ll visit the historic 1820 restored Sapelo Island Lighthouse, followed by unspoiled Nanny Goat beach for optional beach combing. Loggerhead turtles nest here.

Next stop is the African American Gullah Geechee Hog Hammock National Historic Area.
