Learn about Hawai’i’s history in the world wars and observe an abandoned war memorial with an olympic-sized swimming pool in the water.

Learn basic surfing history at the site where the first surf schools were established. We will discuss the conflict between Outrigger and Hui Nalu, the two original surf clubs, and their impact on the image of surfing and Hawai’i abroad. Cross your fingers for a visit from a rare Native Hawaiian monk seal, since Kaimana beach is one of their favorite haul out spots!

We will walk along the base of Diamond Head (Le’ahi) state park, and we will discuss the geological history of the island and the formation of this iconic volcanic cone.
