Stop At: BrushBuck Wildlife Tours, 490 US-89, Hoback Junction, WY 83001, USA

After hotel pickup in Jackson Hole, start your small-group tour with a drive north through Grand Teton National Park. Your guide points out the Teton Range, whose pristine mountain peaks tower above valleys abundant with lakes, rivers, wildflowers and wildlife. Enjoy snacks and refreshments en route.

Following the picturesque route of the Rockefeller Parkway, your guide makes plenty of stops for opportunities to observe numerous animals. Using provided binoculars and spotting scopes for close views at a safe distance, it’s possible to see moose, bison, elk, coyotes and bald eagles. Pronghorn sheep, which migrate almost 200 miles (322 km) to central Wyoming in the fall, are known as the fastest mammals in the western hemisphere, running up to 70 mph (113 kph)!

Bighorn sheep can be viewed during winter months, but in case you miss a sighting your day trip includes a visit to the National Bighorn Sheep Center in Dubois. At this interpretive center, learn about Rocky Mountain bighorns, the largest wild sheep inhabiting North America, identifiable by their massive curled horns.

You’ll make a lunch stop in Dubois at a local restaurant and view prehistoric petroglyphs carved by the Shoshone Indians. Discover the spiritual significance of these 1,500-year-old rock drawings of animals other objects, created on stone surfaces using sharp rock tools and sacred to the Eastern Shoshone of the Wind River Reservation east of Jackson.
