Mount Dora Yacht Club has a colorful past. It is the Oldest Inland Yacht Club in Florida. The building was originally a wooden structure built in 1913 but sadly that building burned in the mid 1960’s. The members scurried to rebuild it with more modern materials and what got saved in the fire is the epitome of a “yacht club”. The Magnolia Inn was built in 1926 at the height of the Florida boom as a residence for wealthy gentleman from the Northeast. He not only owned the town newspaper at the time but was one of the founders and huge supporter of the First National Bank of Mount Dora. There is more to the story.
