Open Source Skateboards is one of the only places in the world where you can design and build your own custom board. Our specialty is custom shapes, and this introductory workshop allows anyone to experience part of the process of skateboard design and construction. The instructor will also be able to recommend skate spots for your visit to San Diego, for any type of skating – whether its parks, cruising, downhill, dancing, or street. What better place to build your own board than San Diego, one of the birthplaces of skateboarding!

Itinerary
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll build your own skateboard deck with an experienced skateboarder and builder.
First, you’ll start with an uncut, molded deck. You’ll get a double-kick blank that can be made up to 8.5″ x 33″, but you can upgrade to a longer board if you let me know at least 2 days in advance, depending on availability. (Other shapes are also available – just contact me to inquire about other options a few days in advance.)
Next, you’ll create a custom template or use a pre-made template to shape the board, and cut and finish the board yourself.
You’ll leave with a completed skateboard deck which you can apply art to on your own time. You’ll also have the option to have the board shipped to your home, so you don’t need to transport it with you on the rest of your trip.
Also, please let me know in advance if you’d like trucks, wheels, etc., and I can arrange to have those available for purchase.
**Please wear closed-toe shoes, otherwise you will not be allowed in the workshop. You will be using power tools, so please do not wear any loose clothing or jewelry, and tie back long hair.**
