The Kid LAROI is an Australian rapper, songwriter and music producer known for his meteoric ascent into the limelight at such a young age. His music video for his 2022 single, “Thousand Miles,” garnered about 1 million views within a day of its release. He initially gained popularity when the late American rapper Juice WRLD took The Kid LAROI on tour when he was just 15 years old. The Kid LAROI’s first mixtape, F*CK LOVE, hit the Top 10 and reached No. 1 on the ARIA charts before he turned 18, making him the youngest Australian artist to ever climb so high. The emo rap project consists of six songs released in three segments and proved The Kid LAROI to be a prodigal melody maker. The trilogy introduced several colossal hits, including Miley Cyrus’ remix of the song “Without You” — which they later performed together on SNL — as well as the popular song “Stay” featuring Justin Bieber, which locked in the No. 1 seat on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks. Born by the name of Charlton Howard in 2003, The Kid LAROI was born to entertain. His father is a music producer and sound engineer, while his mother works in the industry as a music executive, talent manager and founder of a record label. A product of his early influences, he began working on music as young as 10 years old, using his mom’s phone to record raps over beats and uploading them to SoundCloud in a style influenced by the heritage of old-school hip-hop. Fueled by confidence and the drive to be seen as a peer amongst his idols, The Kid LAROI hustled hard to make it big, independently releasing his first EP at 14 years old. He’d attend local radio interviews in the early days of his career after class while still wearing his school uniform. In ninth grade, he dropped out of the Sydney-based Performing Arts Grammar School to pursue his international music career, and by 15, he was living in Los Angeles with friend, mentor and role model, Juice WRLD, who taught Howard the ins and outs of studio life.
