What makes Whittier to Anchorage Full Day Transit Tour From the Port a unique experience ?
The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research, and quality animal care. AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals and provides them with a permanent home. The Center hosts numerous educational and daily guest programs, including the Walk on the Wild Side tour, where you can get a closer look at the Alaska Wildlife that makes its home here. AWCC also offers up-close animal encounters in the summer featuring moose or brown bears. There are many animals that call AWCC home including black and brown bears, moose, elk, lynx, caribou, muskox, bison, reindeer, wolves, foxes, deer, and more. Choose between driving the 1.5-mile loop, or spending your time walking through the 200 acres that make up the AWCC Campus.
Potter Marsh may be the most accessible wildlife viewing spot in Alaska. This 564-acre fresh water marsh stretches for nearly two miles between the New Seward Highway and the base of the Chugach Mountains, creating a wetland maze that concentrates at least 130 species of migratory and nesting birds very close to highway pullouts and 1,550 feet of handsome, family friendly boardwalks. This rich habitat also attracts browsing moose, beavers and muskrats, bald eagles, and spawning salmon.
Sampling the finest Chocolates! There are four kitchens called the Jam and Jelly Kitchen, Hot Kitchen, Candy Kitchen, and the Molding Room. You can watch all four kitchens in action through the viewing windows in our store See Alaska’s 20-Foot Chocolate Waterfall. The chocolate waterfall incorporates over 3000 pounds of chocolate, authentic copper candy kettles, and a specially built warming and mixing system. The chocolate gushes out of the fountain head, cascades down the kettles, then settles in the swirling chocolate pool. An amazing sight to see!
Earthquake Park gives visitors insight into one of the pivotal moments in Alaska history: the 1964 Earthquake. The quake on March 27 – Good Friday – measured 9.2 in magnitude and was the largest quake ever recorded in North America.
A sharp drop-off north of the park and the peculiar rippling hills in the forest below are evidence of the massive earthquake that forever altered Anchorage’s landscape. Informative displays tell the story of the geological forces at play that day, and Anchorage history before and since the quake.
